Krishna Vamsi, the creative director of Telugu Cinema, has been going through tough times for quite few years. After, Chandamama he could not produce one film that lived upto his earlier glory and the director has been trying to hard to prove that he is better than his current status from his last few films.
The director confessed that earlier in few cases he did make a movie with certain actors so that he can make a hit movie with them as his leads. As he realised that never works, he said for Nakshatram he needed few actors and in the search of those actors he found Sandeep Kishan in a short film and then watched his Venkatadri Express.
He said he literally tortured him for the movie. Then, he talked about his leading ladies, he said he chose Pragya Jaiswal little skeptically but after meeting her and looking at her performance in the film, he liked her. He said initially Sai Dharam Tej was approached for a 20 minute cameo but they increased it to 40 minutes as the story demanded it.
He said the movie is about religion and politics around it. He promised that the movie will be different from what Khadgam had to offer. As Khadgam discussed the emotional reaction of a group of people towards religion and their exploitation. This time he put forth the anger of people and also the politics behind those who try to manipulate innocent people using it as a tool. He said his film will look religion as in general term rather than confining it to terrorism or one community.
While casting, the director wanted someone to resemble a girl from middle class background and Regina Cassandra looked apt for the role. He said, "She looks like Ramya in her early days and I hope she reaches the same heights." He concluded by saying that every filmmaker needs to have integrity and he is glad that he still has it intact. Nakshatram will release soon after the team completes canning the item song.
