South Indian cinema circuit is an important hub for film production and distribution. A lot of business happens in the Telugu and Tamil film industries every year. Usually, from February to April, there will be a decline in the number of films that hit the screens. Because of the examinations season, the big-budgeted flicks will not hit the theatres in any language. But, this time, along with exam season, Coronavirus outbreak is also doing damage to the collections of the films.
Already, a decision has been taken to shut down the theatres till the month-end in Kerala. Now, the distributors of Tamilnadu also wants the shutdown of theatres, but for a different reason. T Rajendar, President of Chennai, Tiruvallur, and Kanchipuram distributors association says they are planning to not release any new films after March 27. This decision has been taken after TN government refused to remove Local Body Entertainment Tax. We have to see if they implement the decision.
