Legendary director Vamsy is trying to get back on the success track from quite a long time. This time, he comes up with ‘Fashion Designer’ which is an updated version of his own hit flick, ‘Ladies Tailor’. The film managed to get decent buzz and let us see if it quenches Vamsy’s thirst for success.
Gopalam (Sumanth Ashwin) is a small-time tailor who dreams to make it big as a fashion designer. In order to make his dream come true, he traps a rich girl in his village but another rich girl called Ammulu (Manali Rathod) too falls for her. This makes Gopalam to start a relationship with Ammulu too.
Now enters rich NRI (Anisha Ambrose) into the village and Gopalam traps her too. This makes Gopalam getting stuck between them and rest of the story is all about where will Gopalam end up and how does he come out of it.
Sumanth Ashwin is okay though he is a bit unconvincing in that role. He tried his best to fit into the shoes a village guy.
Pandu who played Sumanth’s sidekick impresses and there are some scenes which may entertain the front benchers.
Heroines are another Plus Point for the Movie.
Cinematography and music are the biggest assets of this film. Camera work of the film is pretty good and was very eye-pleasing. Mani Sharma’s music is undoubtedly the biggest highlight of the film and songs have been shot well too. They have added a lot of weight to this film. Editing work is decent and the art direction too was good.
Dialogues gel with the mood of the film though they cross the line at times.
Production values by Madhura Sreedhar is good and made the film look quite rich.
Coming to director Vamsy, he disappoints the audience one more time as his screenplay is a major let down. He added a lot of loudness in his narration. Even the climax part is rushed up.
The basic backdrop of the film is its basic asset. The Godavari, people around it, their sensibilities and their funny side are well presented onscreen. Certain comedy scenes were entertaining and leave the audience in splits. Out of all the three leading ladies, Manali Rathod puts up a decent performance.
After watching this film, one gets a clear idea that Vamsy is still stuck in the 90’s. Things which worked then may not work now. There is a lot of loudness in this film which may irritate after a point.
The emotion is completely missing in this film and the director should have concentrated on that aspect instead of adding too many over-the-top moments.
Vamsy mark comedy may not suit everyone. Sumanth Ashwin’s dubbing sounded artificial and his acting too was a bit loud. The film had certain vulgar scenes in the film which may disappoint some.
The film’s pace is a bit slow and is dragging at places. There is nothing new in terms of the story.
‘Fashion Designer’ is a film that may be liked by those who love Vamsy type of slapstick comedy. There are only few scenes which gives you a glimpse of vintage Vamsy. The music and rich visuals make it a decent watch. On the flip side, the film is quite outdated and loud at times. Looks like Vamsy’s wait for a hit may get extended.
