Young director Venky Atluri who marked his debut with a super hit film like 'Tholi Prema' has now come up with another romantic entertainer. Titled as 'Mr. Majnu', Akhil Akkineni played the lead role in this film. As both his previous flicks ended up as disasters at the box office, Akhil has pinned all his hopes on this movie.
Also Nidhhi Agerwal, the female lead of the film whose debut movie 'Savyasachi' is hoping to score a hit this time. After grabbing the attention with the trailer, the movie got released today on January 25th, 2019. Let's check out the review of the film.
Story: Nikky (Nidhhi Agerwal) is an NRI girl who lives in the UK. When it comes to marriage, she has high expectations about her husband and wants to marry a guy like Lord Rama. One day, she comes across Vikky (Akhil Akkineni) who is a Casanova studying Masters in London. Initially, Nikky hates him as he is a big flirt. However, things start changing after they travel to India for a wedding.
After seeing the sensitive angle in him, Nikky falls for him and proposes him to stay in a 2-month relationship with her. Though Vikky agrees, he always says that he is not suitable for her and rejects her after the two months period. Hurt by his words Nikki goes back to the UK. On the other hand, Vicky starts missing her and wants to claim his love back. He also returns to the UK. The rest of the story is about how Vikky convinces Nikky.
Performances: The way Akkineni Akhil has been showing a transformation with each of his movies is definitely is amazing. When compared to his previous two films, Akhil has played a completely different role in this movie and yet he pulled it off easily. We can say that he delivered his career-best performance in this movie. Nidhhi Agerwal also got a challenging role in this movie and she delivered her best performance when compared to her debut.
She has shown maturity in her performance with this film. Izabelle Leite is absolutely beautiful and delivered a decent performance. Nagababu is impressive in his role. Subbaraju delivered his best performance. Rao Ramesh and Jayaprakash also gave their best. Vidyullekha and Priyadarshi's comedy timing is awesome and will tickle the laugh bones of the audience. Pavitra Lokesh and Sitara also made their presence felt.
Technical Aspects: Though there is nothing to rave about the story, director Venky Atluri has come up with a simple and cute love story with entertainment, emotions, and drama. Though his slow-paced narration irks the audience sometimes, overall it doesn't disturb the flow. The production values of Sri Venkateswara Cine Chitra are pretty rich.
It is evident that the director has not compromised in terms of quality. Music by SS Thaman is one of the plus points of the film. He not only gave some excellent songs for the film but also gave peppy and high spirited BGM. George C Williams' camera angles are beautiful. Editing by Naveen Nooli could have been better. The runtime is crisp.
Verdict: 'Mr. Majnu' will be a feast for Akkineni fans and the credit goes to Akhil Akkineni who has shown a drastic improvement in his acting skills. The first half is fun and entertaining which is undoubtedly one of the major highlights of the film. Even the interval scene is also good.
But on the other hand, the second half completely loses its pace. The slow-paced narration will irk some audience. But the emotional content will connect well with the family audience. Overall, 'Mr. Majnu' is a simple one-time watch movie.
