After 'Spyder' movie, Rakul Preet hasn't appeared on the Tollywood silver screens as the female lead again. She played a cameo appearance in 'NTR Kathanayakudu' movie and finally, she has played a full-fledged heroine role in Kollywood hero Karthi starrer 'Dev'. After 'Khakee', Rakul romanced Karthi again in this movie.
Rajath Ravishankar helmed this romantic adventure drama. The movie has been carrying a decent pre-release buzz and the makers have succeeded in creating a positive buzz around the movie. With the promotional stuff, the movie has finally got released on Valentine's Day on 14th February 2019. Both Rakul and Karthi have pinned their hopes on this movie. Let's see how far the movie succeeded in reaching the expectations of the audience.
Story: Dev (Karthi) is a youngster who seeks adventure in life. He hails from a well-to-do-life and has a completely different notion about life. His friends set up a match for him with Meghana who has no time for love or romance in her life. Dev then decides to consider it as an adventure to bring a change in Meghana and make her fall for him. Did Meghana fall for Dev? What are Dev's attempts? What happened in the end? Forms the story of the movie.
Performances: Karthi is undoubtedly the show stealer of the film. His outstanding performance can be considered as one of the biggest plus points for the film. Also, his dialogue delivery is too good in this movie. Rakul Preet looked extremely gorgeous in the movie. Her character has so many shades and the actress has portrayed them all very well.
We can say that she is perfect for the role. Prakash Raj and Ramya Krishna's honest performances added more strength for the film. Both the actors have once again proved their acting capabilities with this movie. Vamsi Krishna got an interesting role in the film and he has delivered good performance. Renuka is too good. RJ Vigneshkanth's scenes came out really well. Amrutha Srinivasan also made her presence felt.
Technical Aspects: The Production values by Prince Pictures are super rich. Music by Harris Jayaraj is too good. All the songs came out really well and he has given pleasant music for the film. Cinematography by R Velraj is beautiful. He has produced some stunning visuals for the film. Editing by Anthony L Ruben is just average and it would have been better if he had chopped off some boring scenes. Overall, the technical team did a good job.
Verdict: Rajath Ravishankar has prepared a good storyline for the film. The film's story suffers because of his slow narration and it is a major drawback in the movie and the audiences will lose the connection to the film at times. The film Dev starts off on an interesting note and sets the mood straight for the audiences. There is the freshness in the story-telling.
The visuals are very eye-catching and the travel-based theme too looked cool in the first half of the film. The performance from both the lead actors is the major asset of the film. Harris Jayaraj impresses the audiences with his BGM. The placement of the film's conflicts is impressive.
The film touches the elements like love, adventure, and travel but nothing was presented totally and hence it creates a bit uneasiness for the audiences to come to a conclusion of what the director actually tried to present with his story. With the shortcomings here and there, the film is not everyone's cup of tea.
