Siddharth, who wowed the Telugu audience with his delectable performances, has confined himself these days to Tamil cinema only. Among the movies that thrust star status on him is super hit Jigarthanda. This 2014 flick is now dubbed as Chikkadu Dorakadu in Telugu. Let’s see how the film fares on various fronts!
Story:
Karthik (Siddharth), who aspires to become a director, keeps doing rounds to impress the producers. It is during one such visit that one producer tells him that gangster movies click well and asks him to come up with a gangster plot. It is during this writing of the stories that Karthik runs intogangster Attack Seshu (Bobby Simha). To know more about Seshu, Karthik goes to Kurnool.
How Karthik gets to know about Seshu and his story? Did he finally write a story based on Seshu’s life? What will happen to Kavya (Lakshmi Menon), whom Karthik meets and falls in love in Kurnool? The film answers all these interesting questions and much more.
Positives:
Well! A strikingly different storyline is the biggest strength of this film. The story is gripping and the comedy is rib-tickling. Some scenes have that wow factor and leave one to wonder at the novel comedy scenes. Another major positive is the harmonious blending of comedy and emotion.
Characterisation too is another highlight of the movie. The heart and soul of the film is Seshu and Bobby Simha does the job admirably well. It is not for nothing that he won a national award for his acting in this film. Siddharth carries himself with great aplomb. He acts effortlessly. Lakshmi Menon is pretty and acts well too. The first half is both rib-tickling and engaging. The second half again is hilarious and the pre-climax and climax are very good.
Minus points:
The film goes according to a pretty different mood, which is alien to the Telugu viewer. The film might not even appeal to those who like commercial films. Logic goes for a toss at some places. Another big minus is the careless dubbing.
Technical:
The film is technically very sleek and well-made. Director-author Karthik Subbaraju does a very neat job and succeeds in engaging the viewer all through. His screenplay is very good and calls for special accolades. He manages to keep the viewer in thrall with a twist or a turn or an experiment at regular intervals. The cinematography is excellent and music director Santosh Narayanan does a good job. The background music has several unique experiments. Vivek Harshan’s editing is sleek and the dialogues of Vennelakanti are good.
Filmybuzz Analysis:
Comedy has permanent appeal. This genre is ever-appealing and if made with dedication, these films can keep the audience fully engaged. Chikkadu Dorakadu can be seen for Bobby Simha and Siddharth’s action. But the only negative factor is the delayed dubbing of the film. The film has been dubbed two years after its release.
