Story: Hari (Suneil Shetty) who brutally kills policemen runs away from there and becomes one of the biggest drug dealers in the world. Meanwhile, Aaditya Arunachalam (Rajinikanth) moves to Mumbai with his daughter Valli (Nivetha Thomas). Aaditya is a police officer and he wants to protect the city from drug dealers. What happens between Aaditya and Hari? Why Aaditya want to take revenge on Hari? Forms the crux of the story.
Performances: Needless to mention that Rajnikanth is definitely one of the biggest plus points for this movie. The versatile actor who can pull off any kind of role has delivered a refreshing and energetic performance in this movie as a Police Officer. His screen presence is an absolute delight to watch especially for superstar fans. Also, the chemistry between the superstar and the lady superstar Nayanthara is really good and the scenes between them are showcased in a decent way. Nivetha Thomas gave his 100% in essaying her role. She will definitely get good marks for her decent performance in the film. Suniel Shetty acted naturally in the film. Prateik Babbar justified his role. Jatin Sarna and Nawab Shah are perfect in their roles. Yogi Babu also made his presence felt.
Technical Aspects: Director A.R. Murugadoss has not only came up with a solid storyline for the film but also succeeded in narrating it in an entertaining way. His pace of narration is constant and the way he has showcased each and every character made the movie even more relatable. Production values by Lyca Productions are lavish and will be one of the major plus points of the film. Music by Anirudh Ravichander is outstanding. Not only the songs but also his BGM made the movie even more interesting. Cinematographer Santosh Sivan has produced some colorful visuals for the film and also his camera angles are impressive. Editing by A Sreekar Prasad is clean.
Verdict: We already know that Rajinikanth is playing the role of a sincere police officer after a long time on the silver screens. Director AR Murugadoss has succeeded in showcasing each and every scene as an eye feast for the audience, especially Super Star fans can really enjoy the movie. Rajini's energetic performance will be the major driving factor behind the film. When compared to the second half, the first half is even more entertaining and also has a gripping storyline as well as narration. The pre-climax and climax are also handled well. The chemistry between Nayanthara and Rajinikanth is also beautiful to watch. On the whole, 'Darbar' is definitely a must-watch entertainer not only for Rajinikanth fans but also for all the movie lovers.
