After some disappointing films, Sekhar Kammula is back to what he is best known for, breezy romantic entertainers. With Varun Tej and Sai Pallavi as the lead actors, ‘Fidaa’ released today amidst huge expectations. Let us get into the review.
Story: The story line is pretty simple. Varun (Varun Tej) who lives abroad, comes to India for his brother’s marriage. During this time, he meets Bhanumati (Sai Pallavi) and falls for her. As time passes by, they start loving each other but do not open up about it.
But, after going back to US, Varun realises that he couldn’t stay without Bhanumati and returns to India and proposes her. But, to his surprise, she rejects his proposal.
What happens after that? Why did she reject Varun’s proposal? How will they get married forms rest of the film.
Performances: Varun Tej comes with a very subtle performance in this film. He looks so adorable. Though one gets a feeling that he got dominated by heroine, he acts brilliantly and will surely win a lot of female fans with this film.
Sai Pallavi is the show stealer in this film. Her looks, accent, acting and everything is spot on. She portrayed some emotions quite brilliantly and will surely be the lead contender for best debut actress this time.
Supporting cast too did their job to perfection. Saranya Pradeep who played to role of heroine’s sister is good and had a lot of scope in the film. Raja Chembolu too fits the bill perfectly. Veteran actor Sai Chand is quite apt and Satya Rajesh brings decent laughs in the film.
Technicians: Cinematography plays a key role in this film. The visuals are splendid and so is the editing of this film which is good except some lag in the latter part of the film. Music by Shaktikanth Karthick is very good and all the songs go with the flow of narration. The background score too is quite good. Dil Raju should be commended for making this film lavishly without any limitations.
Director Sekhar Kammula makes a good comeback with this film. His designing of characters, direction, screenplay, dialogues and everything are just amazing and this film has his brand written all over it. Had he made the film tighter in the second half, this film would have become another classic from him.

Analysis: Right from the posters itself, ‘Fidaa’ is expected to be a typical Sekhar Kammula’s film. Staying true to it, this film is filled with good emotions and romance. The first half of the film is very entertaining with a cute a love story blossoming. Some scenes during this part were very realistic and well executed reminding you of Sekhar of ‘Godavari’ time.
The second half too starts on a good note. But unlike the first half, this part has heavy dose of emotions. Though they work out well, some people who expect same kind of entertainment here too may get disappointed. Also, the climax part is rushed up. Also, there are no major twists and turns in this film which you don’t expect from Kammula’s film naturally.
Final Verdict: On the whole, ‘Fidaa’ is a love story which you can go and enjoy in a cool manner. The film entertains you and even makes you emotional at times. The characters are easily relatable. The film mostly caters to overseas and A centre audience. While Sai Pallavi-Varun’s action and Sekhar Kammula’s narration stand as its strengths, slow narration is its only flaw.
