Biopics or wannabe biopics that are based on popular leaders and strong characters who made a difference, come very rarely in Telugu Film Industry. This film team came up with their version of George Reddy's tale and as they said they made a commercial film out of the story with many cinematic liberties, we shall discuss about the film in that direction only. With Sandeep Madhav as the lead and Satyadev, Muskaan in other important roles, Jeevan Reddy wrote and directed the film, George Reddy.
The movie is about an young research scholar who entered Osmania University premises as a MSc student and then went on to become an activist asking people to raise their voice, while he had an inclination to become a nuclear physicist from India. He always wanted to invent something new that will help Indians to end the poverty but he did not get that chance as he become an eye soar and biggest opponent of communal forces with his Progressive Democratic movement. Movie did not touch on his scholarly side much as much as it tried to show his machismo and activist angle in life.
Sandeep Madhav gave his best to the character. He behaved like a character rather than trying to play him on screen. But he could have been given a few more scenes that centered on other aspects of George Reddy's life rather than just his activism and fights. Satyadev looked terrific in the role even if it was short. Muskaan was beautiful and she played her part well. Abhay Bethagani and other gang were not up to the level director wanted them to stand up and deliver, one feels so.
As the story follows a real life character, writer and director, Jeevan Reddy tried to stick to the basic details that not many know about George Reddy. He kept the pace of the film moving and had no intentions to just stop the narrative. It was pacy, racy and asked you to glue your eyes to the screen. Camera work and editing also complimented each other in the similar way. Music, majorly back ground score by Harshavardhan was very cool to the ears. It elevated several scenes. Songs by Suresh Bobbili did not hurt the pace of the film, at all.
The movie has some issues like character motivations being too one dimensional but the message it wanted to deliver is highly unique and relevant. It asks you to Raise your Voice and be yourself, fight for your self and never accept domination. It asks to see that no one can erase your rights. Jeevan Reddy with some issues still manages to land the climax and the message very well. His style is unique and it needed time for audiences to settle but he carried the audience member with his relentless racy screenplay. Get Motivated and Remember an unsung Hero!
