Victory Venkatesh is coming with another experiment ‘Guru’ which is the remake of Tamil film ‘Iruddi Sutru’. Hindi Version tittled as Saala Khadoos also the biggest Hit film. Sudha Kongara, who directed the original version had directed this film too. ‘Guru’, which created good buzz from the first look gearing for release on 31st March. It carries huge expectations as the posters and trailers have become popular. Does it live up to expectations? Let’s find out.
Story :
Adithya Rao (Venkatesh)'s dream of winning the boxing gold for India was thwarted by his devious coach Dev Khatri (Zakir Hussain). Using the pretext of a false allegation, the head coach Dev Khatri transfers Adi to Vizag. Adithya meets another brilliant boxing prodigy in Rameshwari (Rithika Singh) a poor girl who sells vegetables. Adithya decides to see his dream fulfilled through this girl. Rameshwari's sister Lakshmi (Mumtaz) has been trying to make it to Nationals as a boxer from the past several years. The rest of the story revolves around the lives of these three individuals.
Performances :
Victory Venkatesh sinks deeply into the role of coach both physically and mentally. This is his career-defining performance and Guru created an ideal platform for Venkatesh to experiment. Venkatesh has done perfect justice to the role that requires aggressiveness and commitment.
Rithika Singh, who has already won an award for her performance in Saala Khadoos, has acted well in all the pivotal scenes and stole hearts once again. Mumtaz is adequate for her role. Nasser is at his best. Tanikella Bharani, Raghu Babu and Anita put in good performances.
Technical :
Santhosh Narayan's music is ok and a few songs make a good impression. Venkatesh makes his singing debut with this film and he attracts with his song.
The comic dialogues and sequences keep you entertained in bits and parts.
Editing could have been better. Camerawork is pretty good, and showcases the film in good light.Screenplay of the film is quite brilliant. Sudha Kongara's direction is good. Production values are good.

Analysis :
Venkatesh, who is known for remakes, is coming up with the remake of Saala Khadoos starring Madhavan in the lead. In both Tamil and Hindi, the film won critical acclaim and commercial success. The director succeeds in keeping the audience glued to their seats.
Venkatesh looks every bit the disgruntled coach and totally takes the cake when it comes to hurtling abuses. Venkatesh also conveys a lot of anguish and emotions through his eyes. Venkatesh is the only perfect choice for this film in Telugu and he has given highly convincing performance. Rithika Singh slips into his role as a boxer and she looks every bit convincing in the role.
It’s a content based film with an interesting screenplay. The narrative style is new to Telugu audiences and Guru is going to be a sure success. On the flip side, some scenes look similar to the original and could have been changed to suit the nativity. The director could have added more interesting elements, twists and turns in the film.
Final Verdict :
Guru is a trend-setter and a decent sports drama film. Don't miss it.
