After a string of low-budget films this March, another one adds to this list. ‘Happy Birthday’ directed by Pallela Veera Reddy got released this weekend. Let us see how the film is.
Story: The story revolves around a birthday celebration which shatters lives of two people. Ad filmmaker Rahul (Sridhar) and wannabe model Jyothi (Jyothi Sodhi) plan to celebrate their birthday in a grand way but they get attacked individually. The rest of the story revolves around who attacked them and what is the reason behind it.
Performances: The major plus point of this film is its freshness. Two lead characters performed well and their chemistry looks good. The romantic track is breezy.
The crisp runtime also helps the film. All the other actors are quite apt. The story is very interesting and the director managed to sustain that interest till the end. Also the film is well supported by its technical team who elevated the film.
Technical: There are many new technicians in this film and should be lauded for their honest attempt. Cinematography by Vasi Reddy Satyanand gels well with the mood of the film. Music by Santosh Reddy is worth mentioning and they may turn as chartbusters in future. Editing work is decent and the production values are also good.
Analysis: Though the film is interesting, its slow pace plays the spoilsport in this film. There aren’t enough scenes which thrills the audience. Also, the film neither travels in the thriller zone nor the horror way. It gets stuck in the middle.
Also, there are many new actors which might not connect with the audience. People who expect a commercial content are bound to get disappointed with this film. Coming to director Pallela Veera Reddy, he shows promise. His narrative skills are amazing which made audience to get glued to their seats. His screenplay work is also laudable. If he would have avoided the slow pace, the film would have become more interesting.
Final Verdict: ‘Happy Birthday’ is worth watching with engaging content, if you can ignore the snail paced narration.
