Jyothi Lakshmi is a Telugu film written and directed by Puri Jagannadh starring Charmi Kaur in the tittle role. It was previously rumored that the film is based on the life of a South Indian actress with the same name. It was also rumored to be based on a novel written by Malladi Venkata Krishna Murthy. However, actress Charmi clarified that it is neither a biopic nor based on a novel. She stated that it is a complete commercial entertainer based on a story written by Puri Jagannadh.
Jyothi Lakshmi Story
It is a story of a prostitute on how series of life changing events changed her attitude towards love and marriage. Precisely, it's Jyothi Lakshmi's fight on society to bring her life in to her own hands. “Jyothi Lakshmi” is a female-centric film. its all about how a prostitute Loved by a Man Satya which leads to marriage. In this process she get offended by the brothel house's organizers. At the end it leads to a terrific fight between this lady and the goons who try to take her back to brothel house for prostitution. A powerful mode delivered by the heroine.
Performances:
The whole story can be termed as carried out on the shoulders of the heroine. Charmi is seen in two different looks in the film. She took training in belly dancing, freestyle and club dancing, so as to have a natural look in the film. Her body language depicts a prostitute perfectly. She also whacked off the in powerful scenes. The person who roped in as a police officer (Priyadarshini Ram) have done a good job. Satya scored some brownie points with his skillful performance. like Ram Gopal Varma tweeted earlier. Bramhanandam, Sampoornesh and Saptagiri managed to add in few laugh.
Technical Aspects:
Like almost all Puri Jagannadh's film, this film too gets a thumbs down on its production values. Dialogues in the film were hilarious and the element of punch is too high. Puri Jagannadh was at his best in dealing with the dialogues for this film. Surprisingly, Jyothi Lakshmi was little dragging in Second Half and lacks Puri's trade mark racy screen-play. Climax is Gripping.
Finally Jyothi Lakshmi is a Pucca Commercial Entertainer with Good Message.
