After a super successful ‘Ekkadiki Pothavu Chinnavada’, Nikhil is back again with yet another interesting film ‘Keshava’ directed by Sudheer Varma. Right from the teasers, ‘Keshava’ looked impressive and created good buzz over the film. Let us see how this revenge drama turned out to be.
Story
Keshava (Nikhil) is a law college student with a peculiar problem of having the heart on his right side. He silently kills one police officer after other without leaving a clue. A special officer (Isha Koppikar) is appointed to handle this case.
On the other hand, Keshava’s childhood friend Satyabhama (Ritu Varma) loves him and helps him in completing his mission. Rest of the story is all about how Keshava fulfills his revenge despite the cops being behind him.
Performances
Right from the word go, it is Nikhil’s show all the way and the young actor carries the film on his shoulders with ease. His controlled action and subtle expressions in his dark role is perfect. He is the main strength of this film.
Ritu Varma looks good onscreen and her performance is apt. Isha Koppikar is decent and other actors like Ajay and Rao Ramesh fitted the bill perfectly. Vennela Kishore leaves you in splits and so does others like Priyadarshi, Sudharshan and Satya who provides the required entertainment in an otherwise intense film.
Technicians
‘Keshava’ is a film which is backed ably by its technicians. Cinematography by Diwakar Mani is excellent and captured the mood of the film to the maximum effect. The lighting and coloring of the film needs a special mention. Music by Sunny MR is passable but his background score is good. Editing is quite slick and is a plus for this film. Production values by Abhisek Pictures are extraordinary and the village portions are showcased in a rich manner.
Coming to director Sudheer Varma, he handled this subject quite ably with his interesting screenplay. His way of narration is new and stylish. He gave a strong comeback after a flop like ‘Dochay’ and proves his mettle. if he handled the second half in a more gripping manner, the film would have reached greater heights.
Filmybuzz Analysis
Sudheer Varma’s stylish and engaging taking is highlight of this film. His new style narration is what works and twists too are showcased in an interesting way. The crisp runtime also works in favor of this film and the makers avoided unnecessary commercial elements and stuck to the plot which is commendable.
The heart disorder aspect for the protagonist is not exploited properly. After a racy first half, the film pace dips a bit in the second half though it picks up in the pre-climax.
The plot is quite routine and runs completely on the screenplay. Certain scenes could have been dealt properly as they look very simple.
Conclusion
Overall, ‘Keshava’ is another interesting thriller from Nikhil and Sudheer Varma after ‘Swamy Ra Ra’. Nikhil’s performance, interesting and stylish presentation are the major plus points of this film. If you ignore a slightly slow second half, the film is a must watch this weekend.
