Young hero Vijay Deverakonda is back with yet another interesting film. His political drama 'NOTA' has finally hit the screens today. Anand Shankar of 'Inkokkadu' fame helmed this project. 'NOTA' is a bilingual movie which is released in Telugu and Tamil languages. Tollywood sensation Vijay Deverakonda has taken up a political film for the first time in his career.
Mehreen Pirzada played the female lead in the movie. Vijay is excited to mark his Kollywood debut with this film. The entire movie unit seems to be confident about the outcome of the film. Here is the review of 'NOTA'.
Story:
Vasudev (Nasser), the chief minister of the Telangana state decides to make his son Varun (Vijay Deverakonda) as a proxy CM on the advice given by a Swamiji whom he regularly follows. Though there is a serious opposition for this decision, Varun continues his job as a CM. As the days pass by, Vasudev goes to jail on corruption charges, and Varun hits a roadblock with this as he has no knowledge about the politics.
How did Varun face all the hurdles? What did he learn and implement to take the state into his control? What happens in the end? Forms the story of the movie.
Performances:
Needless to say, Vijay has played yet another interesting and challenging role in this film. The way he shows variations in the roles he plays is really impressive. Especially, Vijay's performance in the second half is outstanding. Mehreen also got an impressive role in the film. She looked beautiful and played a key role in the film.
Mehreen sure justified her role. Nassar and Sathyaraj are like two pillars of the film. They did their jobs extraordinarily well. Despite being challenging roles, they handled the characters well. This is the first film for Yashika Aannand in Telugu. She acted very naturally and looked intense. She showcased her talent well. The rest of the characters also made their presence felt.
Technical Aspects:
The music by Sam C.S is excellent. He scored good music which is one of the major highlights of the film. Production values of K.E. Gnanavel Raja are very rich. Cinematography by Santhana Krishnan Ravichandran is good. His camera angles are good. Editing by Raymond Derrick Crasta is crisp. Overall, the technical team did a great job. The proper care could have been taken in presenting the film authentic for the Telugu audiences as well as most part of the film only appears to be a Tamil Padam.
Verdict:
The story is neither interesting, impressive nor engaging. Shan Karuppusamy's story has the right point which was not translated well into the screenplay and it just could not be the major driving force. The film's director Anand Shankar took a complicated story to put it in an understandable manner which actually failed. He took a dig at the current political situation and made the audience relate to the film.
This is the only plus point in the movie. With a bad execution, NOTA seems to be a forgettable political drama. The film majorly misses the Vijay Devarakonda swag and the entertainment. On the whole, NOTA disappoints big time.
