We have been watching many love stories these days bit watching a passionate love story with an artist in the lead is something new and interesting all the time. Whenever there is a chance for such kind of characters in the story, we see many composers coming up with brilliant tunes and attracting us with the music. This is another musical love story that strings a cord in our heart with the beauty of its simplicity. Let's look into it further for getting a better understanding ...
Story: Veera (Ezhil), an artist tries to catch a break from his routine life. He has a passion for playing guitar solos and whenever he gets a chance he looks to give a glimpse of his talent to the public and his fellow composers as well. He thinks about becoming big and doing great work but lacks in the approachable contacts department. He finally joins in a graduation course to finish his pending education and there his life takes a different turn as he meets Anushka (Mathumitha)
Owing her becomes his passion now. He tries every trick in the book and she falls for his innocence and sincerity. She likes him for his talent and encourages him to look out for better opportunities. His music gets better due to her presence in his life. The happy couple is struck by misunderstandings and they walk away from each other has their ego doesn't let them to sit down and talk. Now, can they see beyond personal egos? Will they ever meet again forms the rest of the story.
Performances: Ezhil Durai, the director himself comes up with a good performance as the lead. He neither exceeds the scene limitation nor undermines it. He knows how much emotion is enough and delivers accordingly. Abhinaya, should be given second place after the actor and she did give her best in the role she was offered. While Ezhil plays the confused youth to the tee, she plays the mature friend in his life very well. Her portrayal and character are major plus for the film after the leads.
Mathumitha comes up with a good performance and she impresses you with her looks as well. She came up with perfect body language for her role and never ever she let's her guard down in the entire runtime of the movie. Her innocence proves to be her asset in this character. Rest of the actors come up with few good lines and does deliver them well too.
Technical: Cinematography by Manish Murthy was good for the budget of the movie. The Cinematographer does show some penchant for creating pleasing visuals to the eye of audience. He comes up with different tones through out the film in accordance to the script demands and then introduces few lighting concepts in different scenes, especially, in few conversational scenes his work should be highly appreciated. At times, the budget does bring his ambition down, but on the whole his camera work is a plus for the movie.
F. Raj Bharath comes up with pleasing tunes for the movie. His music does sound a lot inspired but he gives every song a twist with few experiments here and there. He understands the requirement of the story and narrative structure pretty well. His songs blend into the narrative rather than being stop gap loop holes in the pleasant script. He has a great talent and given bigger opportunities he might shine even better. His songs and Background score does help the director in setting a tone for the movie.
Editing by Lawrence Kishore could have been better as the first hour suffers with several unwanted scenes harming the narrative. Although his cuts have been found underwhelming in few scenes, he does come up with excellent cuts and shows better understanding in the all important romantic scenes of the film. He doesn't spoil the heart of the film but had he taken better care during the first hour, the movie could have been easily a much more than what it appears to be.
Ezhil Durai, the Writer-Director, takes his short film idea, SUMO - The break up lesson and converts it into a rom-com for larger audience. In Tamil titled as Senjittale En Kadhala, the movie promises to be a take on modern relationships and keeps up with the promise through out it's runtime. Even though there are some scenes that just drags on unnecessarily, he scores heavily with the romantic scenes and shows better understanding of Modern youth's thinking process. His work as a director should also be appreciated and he pulled off a good performance in front of the camera and with a megaphone in his hand as well. He can sprung up another surprise in coming days if he works on fine tuning his skills a but more. He does come up with an enjoyable movie for his first attempt and that needs to be given a "Bravo!"
Analaysis: Any romantic comedy needs to be fresh in its outlook and should deliver on the promise of being one of its kind in the genre. Premalo padithe 100% break up, does that beautifully and the writing of the actor Ezhil Durai has enough to keep an audience glued to the screen. The film runs on a strong core humour and delivers on the promise of being youthful at every nook and corner. The music and cinematography coupled with performances make it a good watch
Verdict: A good romantic comedy
