Kollywood star hero Vijay also has a huge fan following in the Telugu States as well. After his 'Mersal' turned out to be a box office spinner, Vijay is all set with his next outing 'Sarkar'. Touted to be a political thriller, AR Murugadoss helmed this project. The movie marks the third film together for Murugadoss and Vijay after 'Thupakki' and 'Kaththi'. As both the films are blockbusters, the audience has high expectations on 'Sarkar' as well. The film has finally hit the screens today. Did 'Sarkar' recreate the same magic as Vijay and Murugadoss's previous ventures? Let's see.
Story: GL is a world's leading company headed by its CEO, Sundar (Vijay) who is known as 'corporate monster'. He is a powerful person in the corporate world all over the globe. One day, Sundar comes to Chennai to cast his vote but learns that his fundamental right was given to a stranger which shocks him. Sundar files a complaint under 49 (P) section to recast his vote. He also inspires lakhs of people who lost their voting rights and causes the re-elections in Tamil Nadu.
Sundar also joins politics and contest in the elections this time. He competes against the veteran political party of Pala.Karuppaiah and Radha Ravi. Will Sundar become successful in his revolution? Forms the rest of the story.
Performances: Vijay's charming performance is outstanding. He carried the film on his shoulders. He is like a one-man army who has become the driving force behind the movie outcome. His stylish looks, killer dance movies, powerful dialogue delivery, intense acting skills leave the audience surprised. His role is a visual feast for his fans. Keerthy Suresh looked gorgeous in the movie. She not only delivered a great performance but also maintained a good chemistry with Vijay.
Varalaxmi Sarathkumar's performance is one of the highlights. Her beautiful acting is attractive. Yogi Babu's comedy will bring laughter in the theatres. His hilarious dialogues are entertaining. Radha Ravi justified his role well. His performance is fantastic. The rest of the cast also made their presence felt.
Technical Aspects: The story is the king of the film. There are no flaws in this story which s racy and has some twists as well. AR Murugadoss executed the complex storyline well and narrated it in a simple way. His fast-paced narration made the script even more gripping. Producer Kalanidhi Maran invested huge amounts for the film without any hesitation. His grand production values are evident in every scene. Music by AR Rahman is pleasant.
The songs are good but the background music is extraordinary. Girish Gangadharan handled the camera well. His visuals are appealing and bright. Editor Sreekar Prasad also did a good job. The runtime is bearable. The Telugu dialogues are written well. The punch dialogues in the first half are too good.
Verdict: The director has showcased the point he wants to portray really well. The movie deals with reclaiming the votes. With all the commercial elements, the film is an entertaining political drama with a gripping screenplay. Vijay's entry scene is superb. The first half is decent and entertaining.
The pre-interval scene is a turning point. Most of the second half is cinematic and it would have been better if the sentiment dosage is reduced in the second half. The movie is an out and out political drama which is show Vijay's political ambitions. Vijay's fans will definitely fall in love with the film.
