Story
A young man, Raheem (Shakti) travelling in the last train is suddenly pushed out of a running train. Court dismisses the case as a suicide due to lack of evidence. But his family and would-be (Madhuvathi Arun) decide to re-open the case and request the Commissioner. He reverts the case to CBCID. The department hands the case to officer Shivalingeswar (Raghava Lawrence). After getting married to Satya (Rithika) he moves to Warangal to solve the mystery behind the case. Few surreal circumstances unfold and Satya is now possessed by Raheem. Shivalinga has to solve the case to get rid of the spirit and save his wife. Will he able to do that and how? You can watch it on screen....
Performances
Raghava Lawrence finds his mojo in songs and energetic scenes but he fails to carry the investigation sequences well enough. He falls back on his fixed expressions in emotional scenes but manages it well enough with his charm. He is at his energetic best in some scenes that follow his Muni format. He saves the day with his energy in climax.
Rithika dances well in the movie and looks quite good too. After few films like Andavan Kattalai there were some apprehensions about her being good enough to carry a lead role in the movie, but here she proves to be a good actor who can act well in the given role. Shakti proves to be good find by performing well enough in the role. But his character swing from being good to bad and the fluctuations leave you wondering is it the script that is not supporting him or his acting.
Radharavi, Bhanupriya, Madhuvathi Arun, Jayaprakash, Urvashi and Vadivelu perform well enough in their given roles.
Technical
Editing by Suresh Urs is good enough to keep the audience engaged for the runtime. He makes sure that the sequences don't drag out than required. Sarvesh Murari fleshes out good enough visuals for the budget given and gives the movie a tone. His lighting schemes help in creating an ambiance that supports the theme of the movie.
Music by SS Thaman is just average but his back ground score help the movie to maintain the tone that is important for a horror thriller. Even though comedy doesn't work out much, it is his work that makes the common clichéd sequences interesting enough. Production values by Abhishek pictures are good enough for the money they have spent.
Writer - Director, P. Vasu decides to go horror route again and proves that he is good in creating a suspense thriller. He holds the suspense well enough till the last minute of the movie. But he doesn't have enough material to drag along through out the runtime of 156 minutes. He made a decent enough thriller with the cast in his hand and proves his experience once again. It is his prowess and deft handling that makes the movie one time watchable.
Analysis
Movie belongs to Rithika and Shakti mostly. Raghava Lawrence does give his best but he has nothing much to do more than being hyperactive while dancing and call himself Junior Kabali. Well, the movie becomes a one-time watchable because of the writing that holds the suspense element in the story for whole runtime. P. Vasu with his balanced narrative style marks for a highly watchable film filled with enjoyable clichés.
Final Verdict : Shivalinga marks for a decent entertainment on a slow weekend.
