Tollywood hero Sumanth who recently delivered a decent hit with 'Malli Raava' is now coming up with 'Subrahmanyapuram '. Touted to be a mystery thriller, debutant Santhossh Jagarlapudi helmed this project. From the first look to the trailer, the promotional material has created a positive buzz around the movie and the makers are confident that the film will definitely impress the audience. Telugu girl Eesha Rebba played the female lead in the movie in which Sumanth played the role of an atheist who researches about the mysterious of the temple in that village. The film has finally got released today. Let's check out the review of the movie.
Story: Karthik ( Sumanth ) is an atheist. He likes to do researches on the ancient temples. As a part of his research, he visits an ancient Lord Subrahmanya Swamy temple which is 'Subramanyapuram'. But ever since he visits the village, some of the villagers start getting traumatized and commit suicides. The villagers including the village head believe that they did something sinful which is why the God is punishing them. But, Karthik doesn't believe in them and suspects that there is definitely something else behind the suicides and sets out to investigate the reasons. Did Karthik succeeded in finding the reason behind the mystery forms the crux of the story.
Performances: Sumanth is undoubtedly the show stealer of the movie. He delivered an outstanding performance which is one of the major elements that keeps the audience glued to their chairs. Eesha Rebba delivered a matured performance when compared to her previous movies. It is evident that the actress has been showing improvement with every movie she does. She also looked beautiful in the movie. Sai Kumar delivered a decent performance. Surya also performed well. The screen presence of Suresh is more when compared to the other character artists and he performed really well. Josh Ravi's performance is impressive. Aditi Myakal looked cute in the film. TNR also had a decent appearance. The rest of the cast made their presence felt.
Technical Aspects: Director has penned an average story that won't keep the audience stick to their chairs. Without focusing on the other elements, the director has always been on point. His racy narration made the movie somewhat interesting to watch. The production values of Beeram Sudhakar Reddy are not up to the mark. It is evident the producer has not invested decent amounts for the film. The Music by Shekar Chandra is good. Apart from the songs, the BGM is really good and elevates the intensity of the story. The camera work by RK Pratap is really good. He produced some decent visuals. Editing by Karthika Srinivas is good and the runtime is crisp.
Verdict: The first half is extremely boring. Though there are some scenes which create interest among the audience, most of the scene and especially the love track is boring and is not handled well. The entire first half is about the suicides in the village. The low production values make us feel like we are watching a TV serial more than a feature film on silver screens. The story is relatable to only a particular section of the audience. The second half is pretty much better when compared to the first half. But, some irritating and unnecessary scenes will test the patience of the audience. On the whole, 'Subrahmanyapuram' is a just an average film which can be a one-time watch.
