Young hero Vijay Deverakonda who delivered a disaster like 'NOTA' is all set with his super-natural comedy thriller 'Taxiwala'. After postponing several times the film has finally hit the screens today. Vijay Deverakonda appeared as a taxi driver in the movie. Directed by Rahul Sankrithyan, short film actress Priyanka Jawalkar played the female lead in the movie. The teaser and trailer of the film have received a thumping response from the audience. Though 'NOTA' became a flop, 'Taxiwala'is carrying a decent pre-release buzz. SKN, Bunny Vas, V Vamshi Krishna Reddy and Pramod Uppalapati under the production banners UV Creations and GA2 Pictures bankrolled this project. Here is the review of the movie.
Story: Shiva (Vijay Deverakonda) is a jobless graduate. After quitting so many jobs, he finally becomes a taxi driver to make a living. But, soon Shiva starts to experience some strange things happening inside that car. Though the car has never tried to harm him, it scares others. Shiva and friends suspect that there is a ghost inside that car. They go to the car's ex-owner. As soon as, they enter the ex-owner’s home, they meet a professor who knows tells them about a pseudo-scientific process called Astral Projection. What is Astral Projection? How is it related to the Ghost in the Car? Who is that ghost? Forms the rest of the story.
Performances: Vijay Deverakonda will definitely be the show stealer with his performance. Vijay has been showing variations in terms of roles he chooses. He also played a different kind of role in this film and justified his role well. His performance is one of the major highlights in the film for sure. Priyanka Jawalkar looked beautiful in the film. Though it is her debut on silver screen, she performed well. Malvika Nair also looked pretty and delivered a decent performance. Both the female leads have a good chemistry with Vijay. Ravi varma got another meaty role in the film and he did a great job. Uttej and Chammak Chandra also have a good screen appearance. Actress Yamuna staged her comeback with this film and she is quite impressive in her role. The rest of the cast also made their presence felt.
Technical Aspects: Director Rahul Sankrityan has chosen an interesting script and laced it with horror and made it a gripping story. The situational comedy and several supernatural elements will make the audience stick to their chairs. He has narrated the complex story in a superb manner. The production values by Geetha Arts 2 and UV Creations are super rich. The producers have invested a lot for the film without hesitating. Dialogues and screenplay by Sai Kumar Reddy are superb. Music by Jakes Bejoy is awesome. 'Maate Vinaduga' song is already topping the charts. His BGM is too good. Especially in the emotional as well as horror scenes, his background score elevated the story well. The runtime is crisp with 131 minutes. The visual effects are also a major highlight.
Verdict: The story is entirely about Vijay Deverakonda and the ghost in the car. The first half is decent with light comedy, love track and horror elements. The story is solid and the director also presented it so well. The interval bang is intriguing. The second half is just average. Though the second half starts on a positive note, the pre-climax and climax scenes have so many flaws as the director projected it in a bad way. Some of the comedy scenes are funny. The romance is cute. The story is decent and the presentation is fine. Overall, 'Taxiwala' is an engaging thriller.
