After a super hit like ‘Bichagadu’, Vijay Anthony delivered a dud like ‘Bethaludu’. Now, he is coming up with his political film ‘Yaman’ which raised everyone’s expectations with its trailer. Let us see how the film is.
Story
‘Yaman’ starts off with the death of Devarakonda Gandhi(Vijay Anthony), an MLA candidate who gets killed by his friend and political opponent Panduranga 30 years back. Now, his son Ashok Chakravarthy(Vijay Anthony) goes to jail for money. In parallel runs the love story between him and Ahalya(Mia George). After some circumstances, Ashok becomes a politician and rest of the story revolves on how he avenges his father’s death.
Positives
Despite the limitations in his acting, Vijay Anthony delivers a solid performance. He carries the entire film on his shoulders and is present in almost every frame. Thiagarajan steals the show as a manipulative mentor.
The screenplay of the film is strong and three main characters scheming on each other is shown superbly. The romantic track in the film thankfully doesn’t act as a hindrance to the narration.
Flaws
‘Yaman’ fails to engage the audience completely though the screenplay is interesting. The Tamil flavor also dampens the film in Telugu. Mia George has nothing to do in the film and is kept just for 2 songs and few scenes.
The film drags in certain parts and things fall in place conveniently without much tunrs in this film.
Technicians
Songs by Vijay Anthony fail to register though the background music is good. The cinematographer captures the mood of the film brilliantly while the editing could have been better. The dialogues are ok and the action sequences are a bit over the top.
Director Jeeva Shankar does a decent job with ‘Yaman’. The screenplay is strong but things could have been more elevated as they fail to connect and engage the viewers.
Conclusion
On the whole, ‘Yaman’ has an interesting concept which could have been dealt a lot better. The film manages to sustain your interest in spite of its slow narration. Vijay Anthony’s performance is one of the saving graces and makes ‘Yaman’ a passable political thriller.
