Nandamuri Balakrishna’s prestigious 100th film, ‘Gautami Putra Satakarni’ is gearing up for release on 12th January. The film has done an exceptional pre-release business and the expectations are sky high. Let us see what Balakrishna has to say about his film.
What was the reason behind selecting a risky script like ‘Satakarni’ for your 100th film instead of a commercial film?
I didn’t plan this before and while I was listening to scripts, I found this line interesting and as we were explaining the life of a great man who went unrecognized, I feel blessed to have this as my 100th film. There is no risk in experiments if executed well. Success doesn’t come without taking risk. We believed in the script and the output gave us immense confidence.
What were the elements that convinced you to act in ‘Gautamiputra Satakarni’?
How many of us know about the great warrior who made us proud? This was the main reason behind me accepting the film. Whenever I remember Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao, I get motivated of doing more historical films like these.
Tell us about your director Krish?
He is a fantastic director who chooses to make different films. Many directors came up with routine scripts but Krish came up with a different subject and that is what made me feel enthusiastic about this film. I personally compare him with legendary director Steven Spielberg.
How did you complete this gigantic film in such a short span?
The way the team planned everything was so perfect. Everything in the nature helps us when we are doing something good. When we were shooting in exotic locales like Morocco and Georgia, the nature helped us so much. It rained heavily there except in our shooting spot.
Tell us about the leading cast in your film?
We are blessed to have a great actress like Hema Malini in your film. Her character is very strong in this film. After acting with my father long ago she came to Telugu with our film. Shriya is a very clever actress and portrayed her character supremely well. Kabir Bedi’s action as an antagonist is superb.
What do you have to say about the clash between ‘Satakarni’ and ‘Khaidi No.150’ this Sankranthi?
Like every year, two biggies are clashing this Sankranti in a healthy way. 'Khaidi No.150 is as prestigious to Chiranjeevi as GPS is for me. I wish both films succeed in entertaining audiences and bring super sankranthi to all Telugu film lovers As both of our films are very prestigious in our respective careers, I hope both the films become successful.
Tell us about your upcoming films?
Talks are going on with Krishna Vamsi. Post ‘Satakarni’, I am planning my career differently and everyone will see a new Balakrishna. In other words, you will witness Balakrishna’s era from now.
With this we winded up our interview, wishing all the success to Natasimham Nandamuri Balakrishna and his 100th film.
