After a long time, Sekhar Kammula is back to what is best known for, the love stories. His upcoming flick Fidaa starring Varun Tej and Sai Pallavi which is produced by ‘Dil’ Raju is releasing this weekend. The fresh posters and trailers gave a good feeling about the film and let us see what Sekhar has to say on his film.
What made you to do a love story again?
I wanted to make a love story from the past few years and the story of Fidaa struck me. I chose the Telangana backdrop while writing the story itself. It is all about a Telangana girl and a foreign based medico whose destiny makes them to fall for each other.
Earlier you thought to make this film with a star hero. But what happened after next?
It was true that we approached few heroes but things didn’t work out. Later when I met Varun, I found him very expressive with his body language. Now, I can say that this role was perfectly essayed by Varun which no one could replace.
What was the reason behind choosing Sai Pallavi?
The heroine in this film is very strong with natural looks and commanding voice. For me, Pallavi was the best and she would get immense craze post the release of this film. She even dubbed herself for this film that too in Telangana slang and girls will own her character so much.
How was it working with Dil Raju who is way different from you?
Yes. We both are completely different from each other. But it didn’t effect this film. He gave everything I needed and my job was just to work on spot. The script was locked from the Day1 and never interfered in my work. It gave me a lot of freedom and his way of promoting the film is also very good.
How different is Fidaa from regular love stories?
Fidaa is not the typical love story which we are used to see in recent times. The stereotype characters and scenes will not be seen in this film and it is sure to be very fresh. It is one film which you haven’t seen in recent past.
Can we see you making commercial films?
Not really. I think stars should also try to make natural films shedding their star image. Even the perspective of audience is changing these days and it is good to make more different kinds of films.
What is the reason behind you taking such long gaps?
Every project that I make comes from my heart. I feel that my best comes out when I spend ample time on scripting. I take a lot of pressure while making a film and I lose nearly 5-6 kilos of weight after a film. This is the reason for such long gaps.
What are your expectations on the box-office potential of Fidaa?
The film shaped up very well and I’ve watched it four times already. It is sure that ‘Fidaa’ will be a fresh breather in the pollution of commercial cinema. It is sure to perform well at the box-office.
