Muttiah Muralitharan, the legendary off-spinner, is the only bowler in the history of International Test cricket to take 800 wickets. Movie Train Motion Pictures has made an authentic, grand sports-based film titled '800' as his biopic. Madhur Mittal of 'Slumdog Millionaire' fame is essaying the role of Muralidharan in the film. Mahima Nambiar plays Madhimalar Ramamurthy, the former cricketer's wife, in it. Directed by MS Sripathy, the film is co-written by the Booker Prize (2022) laureate Shehan Karunatilaka.
Vivek Rangachari and Movie Train Motion Pictures have produced the movie. Sivalenka Krishna Prasad, the famous Tollywood producer and the head of Sridevi Movies, has acquired its All-India theatrical rights. The movie will be released in theatres on October 6th.
The film's pre-release event will be held in Hyderabad on September 25th. Former cricketer VVS Laxman will be gracing the occasion as the chief guest.
Sivalenka Krishna Prasad said that VVS Laxman for India and Muralidharan for Sri Lanka competed on the cricket field. "However, the duo have been good friends off the field. Laxman is gracing our event owing to that friendship. We thank him for the gesture. Muralidharan was one of the top-tier cricketers admired by millions of Indians. At the trailer launch event in Mumbai recently, we saw how much admiration Sachin and others have for him. The audience have embraced the trailer. The audience are waiting for the movie to be released in theatres on October 6th. The biopic will interest the audience in multiple ways, not just because of what happens on the field," he added.
