Touted to be a 'Silent Thriller', the movie MERCURY hits the screens today. Indian Micheal Jackson Prabhu Deva as the main lead, this 'no language' movie's got a very good pre-release talk. Talented filmmaker Karthik Subbaraj has directed this thriller. There is a guess that the movie is a one-night thriller which revolves around an abandoned place where a number of people had died due to Mercury poisoning. Story Line: In the year 1992 more than 80 people die in a mishap which takes place because of Mercury poisoning in Pondicheri. Because of the radioactive effects caused due to mercury poisoning, even the next generation suffers from serious disorders.
Five friends who studied together in the childhood reunite. They get to go to that abandoned place where this chemical mishap took place. What they face there, how they get to meet Prabhu Deva, Who is Prabhu Deva and what relation he has with these five friends is to be watched in the theaters only.
Roles and Performances: Prabhu Deva is the only known person in the audience in Mercury. All the others are new faces.
Prabhu Deva surprises with his distinct acting skills. In the negative shade, he excels to keep the attention of the audience. His mannerisms and his facial expressions are to be appreciated. This action is what we don't expect from a person like Prabhu Deva who looks cool and composed in real life.
Coming to the other actors, they failed to create an impact. Even in the serious situations, none of the acting skills reached up to expectations. Lack of experience in acting is clearly visible.
Technical Aspects: Music by Santhosh Narayan is in sync with the flow of the story. Mithun's sound designing is to be mentioned. Music team has done a very good job.
The direction department has done a good job. The screenplay is interwoven and is well-placed. The story could have been more gripping. Director Karthik Subbaraj has done an excellent job.
The department of the cinematography is to be appreciated for the detailed capture of the camera. The frames, long shots, flip shots are really amazing. Color editing and lighting departments have done a wonderful job too.
Final Verdict: Though the first-half has so much lag, the interval bang gives a kick. Prabhudeva's role is given a contrasting characterization. All the twists are well-placed. Karthik Subbaraj has done a fantastic job and MERCURY marks his prowess in filmmaking. A good thriller movie with a meaningful message.
