Story: Venkataratnam Naidu (Venkatesh) is a well-known person in a village who raises his nephew Karthik (Naga Chaithanya) after the death of his sister and brother-in-law in an accident. Venky’s father Ram Narayana (Nassar) is superstitious and hates Karthik because of ‘Sri Krishna Amsa’ in his horoscope. One day, Karthik joins army without Venky’s consent. Venky starts to search for his nephew's whereabouts. Rest of the story is about why Karthik’s decided to join the army? Parallel love tracks of Venky and Karthik with Vennela (Payal) and Harika (Raashi Khanna).
Performances: Venkatesh is the show stealer of this film. Be it the comedy sequences or the emotional sequences, Venkatesh's performance is top-notch. Young hero Naga Chaitanya also delivered his career-best performance in the film and showcased his skills. Both Raashi Khanna and Payal Rajput will entertain the audience with their beauty as well as performance in the movie. Prakash Raj's screen presence is amazing and added more strength to the film. Rao Ramesh and Nassar delivered honest performances in the film. Parag Tyagi, Sampath Raj and Posani Krishna Murali acted naturally. Brahmaji and Srinivas Reddy will evoke good laughs in the theatres. The rest of the actors also made their presence felt.
Technical Aspects: KS Ravindra should definitely get the credit for making the movie as engaging and entertaining as possible. The director has succeeded in narrating the story in a captivating way and will make the audience stick to their chairs. The way he handled the story and executed it is worth appreciating. Production values by Suresh Productions and People Media Factory are very high. Music by SS Thaman is top-notch. A couple of songs are catchy and also his extraordinary BGM suited really well for the film. Especially, the background score in the climax is too good. Cinematographer Prasad Murella's beautiful and camera angles are a delight to watch. Editing by Prawin Pudi is neat.
Verdict: The movie starts off on an interesting note. Despite having a simple and routine story, the director has succeeded in showcasing it in a different kind of way. Especially, the relationship between Venkatesh and Naga Chaitanya is showcased in a really engaging and captivating way. The scenes with Venky and Naga Chaitanya will definitely impress the audience and is the major highlight of the film. Also, the first half is really entertaining when compared to the second half. Despite having some slow paced scenes and emotional scenes in the second half, the pre climax and climax are handled well and the military backdrop scenes are also quite good. Overall, 'Venky Mama' is a must watch movie.
