Sukumar is one of those directors who are very famous in our Telugu industry. Now, in his production, 'Current' fame Pratap Palnati is the director for the upcoming youthful entertainer "KUMARI 21F". Raj Tarun as the male lead, Hebha Patel as the female lead, the movie is to hit the theaters on 20th November.
We have caught up and interview with the director Pratap Palnati. Check out what he has to share with us:
Q: Why is that you took such a long gap after the movie Current?
A: After Current, I was offered with other projects. It was the same time when I got offered to work in the writing department of Sukumar sir's office. I felt that it was best for me to work in Sukumar sir's team rather than directing the other movies. I knew that I would reach an entirely next level if I worked with Sukumar sir. And hence I got a very good experience in the department of execution. I learned a lot of things.
Q: So, do you think that you have reached to Sukumar sir's level now?
A: It is indeed a very difficult task to reach Sukumar's range. But, I really feel great that Sukumar sir believes in me. He simply asked me to direct the movie after the completion of the script.
Q: How did Kumari21F happen?
A: The core thought was Sukumar sir's itself. He narrated to me a small streak from the story and he felt he could elevate a flick from that base. He made me responsible of the direction department for this movie as soon as he penned the story.
This is a very bold subject that will reach to the youth of this generation. It showcases the way a girl thinks about a boy and vice-versa. This is a full too love story.
Q: What tips did Sukumar sir give you in the context of direction?
A: Sukumar sir have blended the story with those love elements, which he did in ARYA. He never came to the sets. He just came when we wrapped up the shoot and that too to pose for photographs. But, he gave me tips in editing. He complemented that the movie came out very well.
Q: On what basis did you consider Raj Tarun and Hebha Patel as the leads?
A: We had no idea about the star cast when we made this story. Once, Raj Tarun and Sukumar had a 5-minute conversation. After that, Sukumar sir came to me and told me that Raj Tarun would be doing the role of the hero in the movie. Hebha also was Sukumar sir's choice.
Q: Some famous technicians like Devi Sri Prasad, Rathnavelu etc. have worked for this movie. Were you pressurized by that?
A: I have worked in the team of Sukumar sir's at the time of Arya. I have built a good rapport with Rathnavelu sir. I also worked with Devi Sri Prasad during CURRENT. So, I had no pressure working with them. Rathnavelu sir's photography and DSP's music brought another flavor for the movie.
Q: There are rumors that the movie resembles some English flick. So, how far is this true?
A: I came across the rumor too. See the movie story was developed from a core idea. Sukumar sir has made this story based on his own experiences. No inspired stories!
Q: What is that you want to convey through the movie?
A: This movie reflects the present lifestyle of the youth. There are some streaks in the movie that will make the youth to think.
Q: Next projects?
A: No projects signed as of now. I will do what Sukumar Sir want me to do.
